The Music of Turlough O’Carolan

Turlough O’Carolan (1670 – 1738) was a blind Irish harper who toured his homeland writing and performing original music. Carolan is credited with fusing music of the continental classical tradition with the older Gaelic harp tradition. More than two hundred of his original compositions survive, a fact which has ensured the music has never been forgotten. Republished, arranged, rearranged, and performed by a diverse array of instrumentalists (from folk rock bands to orchestras), Carolan’s melodies are incredibly versatile. The classical guitar is a perfect vehicle for these tunes. In this short book, eight of Carolan’s melodies are arranged for easy/intermediate duet and trio. They’re also suitable for much larger ensembles.
