Two Christmas Carols for Violin or Flute and Guitar

$16.00

“O Holy Night” (originally titled Cantique de Noël) is a sacred song associated with the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The music was composed in 1847 by Adolph Adam to text by Placide Cappeau for a Christmas Eve midnight mass in the small town of Roquemaure in southern France.

“Silent Night” (Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht), like O Holy Night, was first performed for a Christmas Eve mass in 1818 in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria. Joseph Mohr brought his poem “Stille Nacht” to composer Franz Xaver Gruber on Christmas Eve 1818 and asked him to compose music for that night’s mass.
