Know Guitar Outside and In

Know Guitar: Outside and In was designed to increase student engagement from the very beginning by presenting students with more fulfilling music to play. Outside and In refers to the order in which the strings are introduced. After learning the open strings (Chap. 2, Unit 1), both the first and sixth strings are introduced
simultaneously. Since they both have the same note names and fret locations, it is easier to learn both at the same time. This gives the ability to play melodies and bass lines in ensemble and solo music right away. From there the strings are introduced in this order: ② ⑤ ③ ④ which is outside and in.
