Kerry Alt studied Classical Guitar at Loyola University of The South and went on to complete his Masters in Guitar Performance at Arizona State University, and later a Doctorate at New Mexico State University. He has performed extensively as a soloist and in ensemble in the United States and Europe and has been teaching classical guitar since n1977. In December, 2012 he retired from his position at New Mexico State University, where he had taught for 27 years. After moving back to his home of New Orleans, he resumed teaching, holding positions at Loyola University, the University of New Orleans and the New Orleans School for Creative Arts.
In addition to performing and teaching, he has written extensively about guitar pedagogy for various magazines, including American String Teacher. He has been active in writing and editing articles and reviews for Soundboard, the magazine of Guitar Foundation of America. Now retired from teaching, Dr. Alt is concentrating on arranging and composing music for the guitar.
